The Latest Buzz Books 2017 Just In Time for Book Expo and the Fall Season

May 16, 2017By Michael Cader

Today we launch two new editions of what has become the ultimate way to prepare for Book Expo, Book Con and the fall publishing season (capturing the best part of the convention even if you don’t attend — reading some of the hottest new books ahead of everyone else): Buzz Books 2017: Fall/Winter and Buzz Books 2017 Young Adult.

The adult edition’s 40 pre-publication excerpts feature the latest from Louise Erdrich, Eleanor Henderson, Celeste Ng, Robin Sloan, and in a bit of a switch, nonfiction from novelist Amy Tan and the fiction debut from environmentalist Bill McKibben. We have a big 16 debuts in all, from Adebayo Ayobami, A.J. Finn, Sarah Bailey, Phil Harrison, Ali Land, K. Arsenault Rivera, Adrian Walker, Cherise Wolas and more — plus nonfiction from bestselling author Mark Manson, actor Gabrielle Union, and others.

The new YA sampler includes first looks at forthcoming books by New York Times bestselling authors Kwame Alexander (a YA novel written in poetic verse), Marie Lu (a sci-fi thriller), Marieke Nijkamp, and Jen Lancaster in her YA debut.

Twenty four of our featured authors will be appearing at Book Expo later this month, including three of the show’s featured Editor’s Buzz selections. And as our six year history of Buzz Books samplers has shown, you will be seeing many of these titles on the bestseller lists and year-end “best of” lists.

As regular readers will remember, Buzz Books are available in “trade editions,” complete with marketing and publicity information and click-throughs to request full galleys, directly from PM as EPUB files and from NetGalley, where both the adult and YA books always top their most-downloaded lists and generate hundreds of positive reviews of your forthcoming titles. (Trade versions are on Edelweiss, as well.) Actual Book Expo attendees can try to score rare printed editions of Buzz Books at the Book Expo Editors’ Buzz 2017 panels or from the ABA Lounge, though they always go quickly.

Plus the consumer versions can be downloaded from all of the major ebookstores, with links to each from our main Buzz website — or go right to iBooks, where both editions have been featured during a special preview window and are highlighted in promotional carousels.

With help from our new initiative of shorter, consumer-focused monthly samplers on top of the established twice-annual big collections, Buzz Books is far and away the most successful sampler initiative and preview program in the trade, driving hundreds of thousands of downloads and filling order lists, review assignments, social media feeds, TBR lists and pre-orders.

Our thanks once again to Ingram and Lightning Source, who distribute the consumer digital versions and manufacture those sought-after printed versions (complete with color covers as a showcase of their capabilities), as well as to all of the participating publishers, authors and agents.
