Not officially announced yet, we can tell you that Amazon is moving into a new state with their fourteenth known bookstore location: On Friday, the company posted a job listing for a store manager (“Must love books and devices!”) in Austin, TX. The location is the new upscale Simon mall development The Domain, in Northwest Austin, being promoted as an alternative to downtown. (N.B: Amazon later corrected their listing to The Domain NORTHSIDE — which is an adjacent mall.) Amazon has expanding corporate offices in the area, which also includes a Whole Foods, and the research campus of the University […]

The company he created to publish his own book after it was rejected by S&S has announced a second title, Fatwa: Hunted in America, by Pamela Geller. In doing so, he reaffirms his lack of competence as a publisher, since the title is due November 1 — so much for sell in to stores — and, like the first announcement of Milo’s own book, it’s currently available for pre-order from Amazon alone, and even there can only be pre-ordered in […]

Scholastic Returns to Normal Sales, with Higher Loss
Scholastic reported fiscal first quarter sales through August 31, returning to a normal quarter after last year’s boost from the release of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. Sales were $189 million — down from $283 million a year ago, but close to the $191 million in the same quarter two years ago. The company traditionally has a seasonal loss in the first quarter while school is out of session, though this time losses were heavier at $102 million — compared to $62.5 million last year, and $79.5 million the year before that. But the analyst still covering the stock […]
