People, Etc.

September 8, 2017By Michael Cader

At NBC News, Ariella Prince has been promoted to booking producer, handling author bookings across all NBC News programs and platforms (including Today, NBC Nightly News, Meet the Press, Dateline, Megyn Kelly, and their digital properties). For the past seven years, she has worked under Jackie Levin, booking authors for all hours of the Today Show.

Brookings Institution Press editorial director Bill Finan has been promoted to director, and Yelba Quinn has been promoted to assistant director.

Quressa Robinson has joined Nelson Literary Agency as an agent, based in New York. Previously she was editor at Thomas Dunne Books and agent at D4EO Agency. Her list will include literary, science fiction and fantasy, romance, nonfiction, and young adult literature.

At Random House Children’s, in the school and library marketing department, Lisa Nadel has been promoted to director; Kristen Schulz has been promoted to associate; and Stevie Durocher has been promoted to coordinator.

Roland Coffey has been promoted to publicist at Yale University Press, focusing on art and architecture.

Forthcoming
Houghton Mifflin Harcourt will publish Tim Ferriss‘s TRIBE OF MENTORS: Short Life Advice from the Best in the World on November 21. The book “shares wisdom from more than 100 entrepreneurs, athletes, celebrities, and other top performers.”

Distribution
Bookmasters will distribute UK-based Christian publisher CWR in the US.

Storm Relief
Ingram Content Group’s efforts include offering to postpone invoicing for bookstores in the affected areas in Texas, along with a variety of charitable donations.

Awards
Australia’s Miles Franklin Award went to Extinctions by Josephine Wilson (UWA Publishing).

Initiatives
James Patterson distributed the $1.75 million he pledged to teachers for his third School Library Campaign with Scholastic Book Clubs. Donations of $500 each went to 3,500 teachers for classroom materials and were matched with “Bonus Points” from Scholastic to use towards more supplies. There were 82,622 applicants this year, as Patterson said: “We saw a huge increase in the number of applications to this year’s campaign, and it was both humbling and concerning to see just how many teachers lacked basic materials – most notably, books – for their classrooms. The incredible response demonstrated just how resourceful teachers are, and how vital to they are to student development. I’m happy to be able to acknowledge their contributions in some way, and in doing so, hope to bring more awareness to the clear and immediate need for school funding.”
