Maris Kreizman will leave her position as editorial director of Book of the Month club on November 30 after a little over a year with the company, to give her “full attention back to my own writing.”
At William Morrow, Heidi Richter has been promoted to senior publicity director, while Anwesha Basu moves up to publicity director.
In the UK, Charlie Brotherstone has opened his own literary agency, Brotherstone Creative Management. Brotherstone was at Ed Victor Ltd., representing his own clients and running the film/TV, serial and speakers departments, and a number of years at A.M. Heath. Brotherstone Creative Management will sell rights directly in the US “where many clients are based” and will work closely with United Agents on translation, television and dramatic rights.
Rob Dawson has been promoted to managing director of Georgetown Publications.
Spain has signed on as the “guest of honor” for the Frankfurt Book Fair in…2021. (The Fair will be late that year, starting on October 20.) Separately, Book Expo has opened for registration for the 2018 show. The refreshed website lists Wednesday, May 30 as limited to the remainders pavilion, “premium B2B exhibitors,” and the rights center, with two days of regular floor exhibits on May 31 and June 1.
More dramatic for now is the revised floor map for the shrinking trade show. Though still early, the map shows the smaller southern hall of Javits closed to exhibits, reserved for autographing, shipping and Book Con lines. Even that reduced “show floor” has what looks to be less floor exhibit space: Meeting rooms, lounges, and a stage move to occupying a big chunk of the back two-fifths of the hall.
Bookselling
Publisher Europa Editions and its Italian parent company Edizioni E/O have paired with Italian independent bookstore Altroquando to open a new English-language bookstore in central Rome, Otherwise. The store opens November 21, and aspires to “serve as a center for cultural events and a meeting place for the English-speaking community in Rome and for visitors to the city.” It will be located at via del Governo Vecchio 80, on piazza di Pasquino (near piazza Navona).
Start-Up Wind Down
Another publisher-owned self-publishing platform is closing: Bonnier’s Type & Tell will close their UK offer, and the Bookseller “understands” that the venture’s operation in Finland will also close by the end of the year, but will continue to operate in Sweden. In the UK, three employees will lose their jobs when the platform closes on December 20.
