People, Etc.

December 1, 2017By Sarah Weinman

Penguin Random House chief financial officer Milena Alberti has decided to leave her position at the end of the year after 16 years with the company, the past two as cfo. Deputy cfo James Johnston will lead the finance group in the interim, reporting to ceo Markus Dohle, as the company searches for a permanent successor, which they hope to announce in the first quarter of 2018.

Dohle said in the announcement: “I am one of many who has truly valued, enjoyed, and benefited from collaborating with Milena over the years, and I want to express my sincere appreciation for her tremendous contributions to our company.”

Harper One svp, publisher Mark Tauber will leave the company at the end of the year after 18 years “to pursue other interests.” The division will report to Harper Morrow publisher Michael Morrison until a replacement is named. Morrison announced the news “with deep regret” and added: “I will miss Mark both personally and professionally. I want to thank him for all he has contributed to Harper Collins, and wish him all the best in the future.”

Jennifer Goloboy has joined Donald Maass Literary Agency as agent representing adult fantasy and science fiction. She spent the previous six years as an agent at Red Sofa Literary.

Mekisha Telfer has joined Roaring Brook Press as associate editor. Previously she was associate editor at Glasstown Entertainment.

PW has named Simon & Schuster president & ceo Carolyn Reidy as their person of the year, for having “steered the publisher through the Great Recession, publishing’s digital disruption, and a slow-growth sales environment all while keeping Simon & Schuster a commercial and critical success.”

Update
Workers in Skyhorse Publishing‘s New York office voted Thursday on whether to join United Auto Workers Local 2110. But employees in the company’s Vermont office and others who work remotely were sent mail-in ballots, so the votes will not be tabulated until December 13.

Corporate
VitalSource has acquired Seattle-based corporate learning-technology company Intrepid Learning for an undisclosed sum. The companies’ corporate and professional business platforms will relaunch as Intrepid by VitalSource, with the Intrepid portion renamed Intrepid Learn, and VitalSource changing its name to Intrepid Discover.
