Fall Announcements: Illustrated Hosseini Book for September, Albom for October, Sanders for November, and More

It’s the day to announce forthcoming fall books. Khaled Hosseini’s SEA PRAYER, a short, illustrated book written “in response to the current refugee crisis and the haunting image of young Alan Kurdi, the three-year-old Syrian boy whose body washed up on the beach in Turkey,” will be published September 18 by Riverhead (and August 30 by Bloomsbury UK). London-based artist Dan Williams will illustrate. Deneen Howell at Williams & Connolly represented Hosseini in the deals. Sea Prayer was first released as a Guardian virtual film on September 1, 2017 in collaboration with the UN Refugee Agency (and the text is posted here). […]

Milo Withdraws Lawsuit Against Simon & Schuster

Milo Yiannopoulos’s unintentional comedy show/performance piece known as his breach of contract lawsuit against Simon & Schuster, seeking $10 million, has come to an end. Playing the final, brief role of lawyer, representing himself, Yiannopoulos discontinued his lawsuit with prejudice (meaning this is final) in a filing posted to the docket Tuesday, and dated February 15 by the parties. Simon & Schuster said in a brief statement: “We are pleased that Mr. Yiannopoulos’ lawsuit has been withdrawn, with prejudice, and with no payment from Simon & Schuster. We stand by our decision to terminate the publication of Mr. Yiannopoulos’ book.”

Book Expo event director Brien McDonald sent a letter to convention exhibitors on Friday, explaining what organizers are calling a “reimagining” of the show, driven by a “listening tour” among booksellers, publishers and others. Dashner Says He’ll Seek Counseling; Random House Says It Will Not Publish His Future Books

Thursday afternoon, author James Dashner posted a message on Twitter reflecting on accusations made against him of sexual harassment, apologizing and saying, “I am taking any and all criticism and accusations very seriously, and I will seek counseling and guidance to address them.” Later in the day, after ignoring queries during the week, three separate Penguin Random House divisions said together they would “not be publishing any future books by Dashner,” including THE WAKING, his first planned novel for adults, which Ballantine announced acquiring last September.
