BookEnds Literary has launched a children’s division, BookEnds, Jr.

Miles Franklin Award-winning crime writer (and Gold Dagger honoree) Peter Temple, 71, died on Thursday of cancer.

Forthcoming
Candlewick will publish two-time Newbery Medal winner Kate DiCamillo‘s eighth middle-grade novel, LOUISIANA’S WAY,  returning to the world of Raymie Nightingale, globally on October 2, 2018.

Awards
The Booker International Prize announced its 13-book longlist, with the shortlist to be announced on April 12 and the winner to be named on May 22.

The Publishing Triangle will give their lifetime achievement award to novelist, nonfiction writer, playwright, screenwriter, and AIDS historian Sarah Schulman; the emerging writer award to Sarah Perry; and their leadership award to agent Malaga Baldi.

The Western Writers of America’s Spur Awards will be given to David Grann‘s Killers of the Flower Moon for historical nonfiction, and Jeff Guinn‘s Silver City for best traditional Western novel.

Bookstore Closings
Woody’s Newsstand and Cafe in Greely, CO will close after 81 years in business.

Turning Pages and More in Natchez, LA will close May 31 after 18 years in business.

River House Books in Carmel, CA will close March 31 if a buyer does not come forward, as the lease expires and owners Diane and Gordon Simonds prepare to retire.

After talking about expansion for a while, bookseller Shakespeare & Co. tells PW they will open a store of a little under 3,000 square feet in Philadelphia’s Rittenhouse Square this summer, and two more New York stores in the fourth quarter (at 2020 Broadway, and 450 Sixth Avenue).
