People: Bell to Gallery As Editorial Director

April 3, 2018
By Erin Somers

Aimee Bell will join the Gallery Books Group as vice president, editorial director, starting April 17, reporting to senior vice president and publisher Jennifer Bergstrom. Bell was the longtime deputy editor at Vanity Fair, until mid-February.  Bergstrom said in the announcement: “She is an editor who has worked with some of the most ambitious, influential, and commercial authors – from Nora Ephron, Dave Eggers, and A.M. Homes to Sloane Crosley, Pippa Middleton, and Bono. Her sharp editorial instincts, creative thinking, and keen sense of what’s current in the zeitgeist make her the perfect person to lead the editorial direction of Gallery Books as we continue to expand our list and publish both established voices and emerging new ones.”

Bell added, “I’ve long admired the list that Jennifer Bergstrom and her team have built at Gallery Books – from smart nonfiction and pop-culture bestsellers to innovative fiction. The chance to lead a team of inspired and opinionated editors and to creatively collaborate with the publicity and marketing teams is a challenge I’m looking forward to embracing.”

Separately, Tim Burgard was named senior acquisitions editor for Harper Collins Leadership. He was senior editor for AMACOM, which Harper acquired on March 2 and made part of the Leadership list.

Austin O’Malley has been promoted to manager, digital publishing for the Knopf Doubleday Publishing Group.

Jaime Levine is leaving her position as publisher at Diversion Books, and Keith Wallman has been promoted to executive editor and editor in chief.

Sally Kim, marketing director at Callisto Media, has joined the board of directors of The Children’s Reading Foundation.

Jared Fliesler will join Scribd in the new role of chief operations officer. Most recently he was general partner at venture capital firm Matrix Partners, and he has worked previously at Square, Slide, and Google.
