People, Etc.

April 18, 2018By Erin Somers

At Workman Publishing, Page Edmunds has been promoted to executive associate publisher; Danny Cooper becomes editor; Kylie McDonald move up to senior editor, director of cookbooks; Rachael Mt. Pleasant has been promoted to editor; Megan Nicolay becomes executive editor; and Maisie Tivnan moves up to executive editor.

Houghton Mifflin Harcourt announced a number of recent promotions in their sales department. Colleen Murphy has been promoted to vp, special markets, mass market sales, and product development. Ed Spade, has been appointed director, digital sales, strategy and business development. James Phirman has been promoted to national accounts director, mass market, and Jaclyn Sassa moves up to associate sales representative.

McGraw-Hill Education named Dr. Nana Banerjee as their new president and chief executive officer, effective April 23. He is currently group president of Verisk Analytics, a data analytics provider. He fills the position vacated when David Levin departed last October, and takes over from interim president and ceo Lloyd G. “Buzz” Waterhouse (who had led the company from 2012 to 2014).

Andrew Sean Greer responded to his surprise Pulitzer win on Twitter: “OMG I won the Pulitzer Prize? Nobody is more surprised than I am! I was working at my job here Italy and had just persuaded a dog to let me put her into polka dot pajamas (not my dog) when I heard the news. I didn’t believe it. So I called my friend Michael Chabon, who screamed. I asked if it was true, and he said yes! And I asked what do I do now? And he said Andy, now you write whatever you want to…. As for my book all I can say is that it is about the foolishness of American myopia, the uneasiness of being gay in the world, the difficulties of love, but most of all it is about joy. A writer friend once said the hardest thing to write about is joy. I took it as a challenge.”
