May 2, 2018
By Erin Somers

At WaterBrook and Multnomah, Laura Barker has been promoted to vice president, editor in chief; Shannon Marchese moves up to executive editor; and Susan Tjaden becomes senior editor.

Sarah Begley joins Medium as senior editor, books, on May 7, editing book excerpts, author essays, and other book-related projects, and reporting to vp, editorial Siobhan O’Connor. Begley was most recently books editor at Time magazine.

Awards
Annie Proulx won the 2018 Library of Congress Prize for American Fiction recognizing an experienced writer whose work “told us something new about the American experience.” Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden said in a statement: “Proulx has given us monumental sagas and keen-eyed, skillfully wrought stories. Throughout her writing, she succeeds in capturing the wild, woolly heart of America, from its screwball wit to its every last detail. She is an American original.”

The six-book shortlist for the Arthur C. Clarke Awards was announced, with the winner to be named on July 18.

Fairs
The Frankfurt Book Fair will feature a new, freestanding Frankfurt Pavilion — a wooden structure covered by a translucent membrane — that will “host events with authors and industry experts from around the world.”
