People, Etc.

June 18, 2018By Erin Somers

Matt Schweitzer has joined Houghton Mifflin Harcourt as svp, marketing, responsible for the marketing of all adult, young reader and lifestyle titles. He was most recently senior director, integrated marketing at Harper Children’s.

Following operational changes and layoffs at independent audiobook publisher Novel Audio on June 8, director of publishing Michelle Kaatz and acquisitions editor Katie Robinson left the company.

Awards
Thirty years after her first win, Geraldine McCaughrean has received a second Carnegie Medal in the UK for Where the World Ends, and Canadian illustrator Sydney Smith won the Kate Greenaway Medal for Town Is by the Sea.

Picks
Barack Obama posted his “slightly heavier” reading list for the summer. The list highlights non-book reading material including an article from The Atlantic and a report from the Rand Corporation, but the four books are:

Futureface, by Alex Wagner
The New Geography of Jobs, by Enrico Moretti
Why Liberalism Failed, by Patrick Deneen
In the Shadow of Statues, by Mitch Landrieu

Distribution
The University of Virginia Press will partner with the University of Delaware press starting July 1, providing manuscript editorial, design, and production services. UD titles will be distributed in conjunction with UVAP titles through Longleaf Services.
