Briefs: Skyhorse Distribution Moves to S&S

July 19, 2018
By Erin Somers

Simon & Schuster will distribute Skyhorse in the US and most markets around the world starting January 1, 2019. Previously, it was distributed by Two Rivers Distribution/Ingram Publishers Services. Skyhorse will continue to be distributed in Canada by Thomas Allen & Son and in South Africa by Peter Hyde & Associates.

Skyhorse president and publisher Tony Lyons said in the announcement: “With our increasingly commercial list, we think this new association with Simon & Schuster is a perfect fit for Skyhorse. Their commitment to and expertise in delivering first-rate distribution services will provide a critical framework for further growth.” He also noted, “We offer our thanks and gratitude to our friends and colleagues at Two Rivers/Ingram for their advice, help and important role in our development as a publisher these past five years.” (Originally they had been distributed by Norton.) In April, Skyhorse had announced layoffs and a cutback in new titles “in response to shortfalls in Skyhorse revenues in 2017 and in early 2018, including issues related to its distribution deal and paper shortages, as well as changes in the marketplace in general.”

Michael Perlman, vp, general manager of Simon & Schuster Client Publisher Services, said, “Skyhorse Publishing is one of the most exciting and dynamic publishers in the industry, and we look forward to serving them as part of our family of distribution clients. It has been truly amazing to watch them develop since the founding of the company in 2006. We are eager to begin working together to bring their impressive and wide range of titles to readers all over the world.”
