Guillory Tops October Library Reads

Houghton to Sell Riverside Assessments
Houghton Mifflin Harcourt will reap a welcome cash infusion with the sale of their Riverside Assessments division to private equity firm Alpine Investors for $140 million. HMH plans to invest the $135 million cash proceeds “in its Extensions businesses, supporting its strategy to create integrated solutions and improve student outcomes.” The deal is expected to close “early in the fourth quarter.” Alpine is adding Riverside’s clinical and standardized testing business to a portfolio that already includes Woodcock-Johnson family, the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT), Iowa Assessments and others. Live Nation Announces Michelle Obama Tour Dates
Live Nation and Crown announced a 10-city big-venue tour for Michelle Obama that coincides with the release of her memoir BECOMING. The tour begins in Chicago on publication day, November 13, and finishes in Dallas on December 17. Tickets go on sale September 21, and there will be “a limited number of VIP meet and greet packages” offered. In answering our query, Crown says that “our plan is to have locally-based booksellers selling books at each event venue.”
People: Tauber to Launch Imprint At Chronicle
Former longtime Harper One svp and publisher Mark Tauber, who left the company at the end of 2017 “to pursue other interests,” has joined Chronicle Books as managing director of a new, to be named imprint. Launching in fall 2019 and aiming to publish 6 to 8 books a season, the line will focus “on narrative and inspirational non-fiction in subjects ranging from health, wellness, and lifestyle to creative business, sports, memoir, and reference.” Chronicle president Tyrrell Mahoney says in the announcement, “We are thrilled to welcome Mark Tauber to Chronicle Books.
