Stephanie Frerich will join the Simon & Schuster imprint as an executive editor on November 12, acquiring narrative nonfiction; big idea books on current events, culture; business and technology; history; and biography; with an emphasis on diverse voices. She was at Portfolio. Additionally, Stuart Roberts has been promoted to editor at Simon & Schuster.

Rob Kirkpatrick has launched his own agency, Kirkpatrick Literary. He was an agent with the Stuart Agency.

Caitlin Mulrooney-Lyski has joined Ecco as director of publicity. She was deputy director of publicity at Grand Central.

Annie Berger has been promoted to senior editor at Sourcebooks Fire.

Open Road senior vice president and publisher Jon Fine is leaving his position November 15, according to an internal memo, to join National Enquirer parent company American Media as deputy counsel. Philip Rappaport, who had been acting publisher prior to Fine’s hiring, will take over the position.

In promotions at Tom Doherty Associates: Alexis Saarela moves up to senior associate director of publicity focusing on Forge; Laura Etzkorn is now publicist; Desirae Friesen becomes senior publicist with a focus on Tor; Saraciea Fennell is senior publicist overseeing publicity for Tor Teen and Starscape; and Lauren Levite is now associate publicist.

At the Monacelli Press Group (which includes The Monacelli Press and Monacelli Studio), Victoria Craven has been promoted to associate publisher and Michael Vagnetti moves up to vp production. Alan Rapp has been promoted to editorial director of The Monacelli Press, and Jenny Florence has been hired as editor, design, interior design, gardening, lifestyle, and fine art. She was at Princeton Architectural Press.

LA Times book editor Carolyn Kellogg announced on Twitter that she is leaving her position after Christmas: “The constraints on me as a journalist are at odds with what I feel are my responsibilities, in this moment, as a citizen. I am not leaving for another job. I will be writing, tho! More about that soon.”

Waterstones announced their eight nominees for Book of the Year.
