Tin House Magazine will shut down after its 20th anniversary issue is released in June 2019. Tin House Books and Tin House Workshop will continue, and new original fiction, nonfiction, and poetry will be published at tinhouse.com. Co-founder and editor of the magazine Rob Spillman will be leaving to move on to “new adventures.” Publisher and editor-in-chief Win McCormack said the decision was made “given the current costs of producing a print literary magazine” and thanked Spillman and founding editors Elissa Schappell and Holly MacArthur, as well as the rest of the staff “for their part in creating a vital, […]

Booksellers whose accounts were suspended had all shipped counterfeit books to one Clara Dufour – a fake name, perhaps one carefully chosen boost the story’s PR. Amazon soon issued a statement: “These counterfeit books were caught in a test buy program we operate, which is just one […]

Once Again, Court Thoroughly Rejects ReDigi’s Scheme for “Used” Digital Goods Marketplace

December 12, 2018By Michael Cader

Just as a District Court unequivocally and thorough called (now bankrupt) start-up ReDigi’s efforts to establish a scheme and marketplace for reselling “used” copies of copyrighted digital files of music (and thus potentially ebooks, as well as video, games and software) copyright infringement in 2013, the Second Circuit Court of Appeals has ratified that decision in this cockroach of a legal case. The Appeals Court similarly dismisses without hesitation ReDigi’s various arguments. “Their transfer process” to move the “used” files around inherently “creates a reproduction, and that is a copyright violation,” pure and simple. Their arguments for fair use did […]

Former Weidenfeld & Nicolson publisher Kirsty Dunseath will become publishing director for Doubleday UK, starting March 25 and reporting to fiction publisher Sarah Adams. As of January 1, Nation Books will be renamed Bold Type Books, as the Nation Institute itself is changing its name to Type Media Center. Jon Krakauer has moved to Gersh for representation (while continuing to work with attorney Becky Hall). And correcting yesterday’s representation item on Rupi Kaur, she remains with Suzanne Brandreth at CookeMcDermid for literary representation; ICM will represent Kaur for film, television and theater. Forthcoming Robert Caro‘s next book is about himself rather than Lyndon Johnson, […]
