Erin Simpson has been named director of the Simon & Schuster Speakers Bureau, reporting to Brian Belfiglio. Along with the appointment, the company is transitioning the speakers bureau into an in-house venture, effective April 1. Since it was founded in 2008, their speakers bureau had been operated by Greater Talent Network on behalf of the publisher. Simpson had been agent director at the Penguin Random House Speakers Bureau before joining S&S. Kelly Booth has joined Ten Speed Press as creative director. People: NYRB Names New Editors, and More
The New York Review of Books named two new co-editors, Emily Greenhouse, 32, and Gabriel Winslow-Yost, 33, to succeed Ian Buruma, who left last September. Greenhouse was most recently the managing editor of The New Yorker, but was an assistant at NYRB in 2011 and 2012. Winslow-Yost has worked at NYRB since 2009, most recently as a senior editor. Longtime contributor Daniel Mendelsohn will take on the new role of editor at large. Pearson Reports Overall Decline as Expected, With Better “Underlying” PRH Profit
In line with their muted January “trading update,” Pearson released its full 2018 results, reinforcing the continuing trend: Their major division, the US higher education courseware business, continues to decline as they continue its “digital transformation,” weighing down stable performance in the rest of the company’s continuing operations. Sales were £4.13 billion, down from £4.51 billion in 2017, with underlying sales down 1 percent. As indicated in January, to the surprise of analysts, US higher ed sales fell 5 percent.
