Bob Munro will join Cengage as executive vice president, cfo, starting April 1 and reporting to ceo Michael Hansen. He was most recently cfo at Callcredit Information Group. Hansen said, “Having worked with Bob in a previous capacity, I am confident that his expertise in leading high-performing, strategic finance teams is the right fit for our company.” Kate Farquhar-Thomson will join Princeton University Press as head of publicity, Europe, starting March 4. She previously led the PR department for Oxford University Press’s Academic division. Andrea Levy, 62, author of Women’s Prize winning Small Island, has died.

Simon & Schuster Finishes with Softer Sales, But Sets New Profit Record

CBS reported fourth quarter and full year 2018 results on Thursday, with sales at Simon & Schuster moderating in the final quarter to $218 million (down from $235 million a year ago), even as operating income continued to grow, at $46 million (up $1 million from a year ago). As ceo Carolyn Reidy underscored, it marks the company’s sixteenth consecutive quarter of growth in profits. Amazon Cancels Plans for New York Headquarters

Amazon announced Thursday that it has cancelled plans for its new NYC headquarters, after facing opposition from the local community. “After much thought and deliberation, we’ve decided not to move forward with our plans to build a headquarters for Amazon in Long Island City, Queens,” said the company in a statement. Long Island City was selected in November as ones of the locations for HQ2, but residents and politicians spoke out about the transit and real estate problems it could create, and criticized the $3 billion in incentives offered by New York City and state leaders.
