By Erin Somers

Karen Murgolo has joined Aevitas Creative Management as an agent. Previously she was editorial director at Grand Central Life & Style.

At Sourebooks, Heather Hall has been promoted to associate managing editor and Cassie Gutman to senior production editor.

Twenty-First Century Books editorial director Domenica DiPiazza is retiring on March 29. She has been with the company for more than 27 years. Also at Twenty-First Century Books, Shaina Olmanson is being promoted to associate editorial director starting April 1.

Copyright Law
With a vote of 348 to 274, the European Parliament has passed the Copyright in the Digital Single Market Directive, leaving just one more procedural step before the directive becomes law — “formal endorsement” in the European Council, by a majority vote. That vote is expected in the coming weeks, according to the Council’s press release. At that point, each country will have until 2021 to implement the law, with a wide range of potential interpretation. The final version of the legislation parliament passed yesterday still includes the most bitterly controversial provisions: Article 11, which allows publishers to charge platforms for using brief snippets of their content, and Article 13, which puts the burden on platforms to police user content for copyright violations.
