By Erin Somers

Michelle Brower has been named a partner at Aevitas Creative Management.

Dean Smith will join Duke University Press as director starting July 1. He has been director of Cornell University Press since 2015 (and for the record is no relation to the late legendary UNC basketball coach of the same name). Smith succeeds Steve Cohn, who is retiring at the end of June. Cohn has been at Duke University Press since 1984, and has served as director since 1993.

Luana Horry has been promoted to associate editor at Harper Children’s.

Danielle Keir has been promoted to senior publicist at Berkley.

Janine Sato has been promoted to production developer, art at Chronicle Books.

Simon & Schuster director, international sales, Danielle Cumbo passed away on April 16 after a long illness. She joined Simon & Schuster in 2012 after holding a variety of roles at other publishers including Sterling, Chronicle, and Harper Collins. The company notes, “Danielle’s knowledge and expertise of international sales and book publishing was truly remarkable, and she unfailingly put these to good use on behalf of our publishers and authors in order to bring their books to readers worldwide.” A service will be held Saturday, April 27 at the Joseph G. Duffy Funeral Home in Brooklyn. There will be a wake from 2 to 4, and a service from 4:30 to 6:30.
