Millicent Bennett has joined Houghton Mifflin Harcourt as editorial director, reporting to Bruce Nichols. She was previously executive editor at Grand Central, and has worked at Simon & Schuster, Random House, Ecco, and Knopf. Sarah Pelz has joined HMH as executive editor, reporting to Deb Brody, with a focus on acquiring lifestyle nonfiction. She was previously executive editor at Atria.

Noa Wheeler has joined Bloomsbury Children’s as executive editor, responsible for the Sarah J. Maas publishing program. She will continue her freelance editorial work for authors and publishers in addition to her role at Bloomsbury. Alexa Higbee will join as publicist on January 8. She was previously associate publicist at Holiday House.

Jamie Carr has joined The Book Group as agent. She was at William Morris Endeavor for almost six years.

At Curtis Brown, Sarah Perillo has been promoted to director of foreign rights. Jonathan Lyons has left the department to focus on representing his clients in the US.

Britt Siess has been promoted to literary manager at Martin Literary Management.

Literary agent Michelle Lapautre died at home on Friday, January 3 at the age of 88. Her agency was founded in 1961 in New York by Georges Borchardt in partnership with Michelle, based in Paris, where she had moved after her PhD in French at NYU. As was one of the first literary agents in France, she was a pioneer in bringing to France the work of English-language writers, such as Ray Bradbury, James Ellroy, Jonathan Franzen, and Richard Russo. A ceremony will be held in Paris on Thursday, January 9 at 3:30 pm at the Crématorium du Père-Lachaise.

The Today Show’s Read with Jenna book club pick for January is Dear Edward, by Ann Napolitano. The book was also just named Barnes & Noble‘s Book Club pick for the month.
