At Berkley, Jen Monroe and Kristine Swartz have each been promoted to senior editor.

Tiffany Shelton has been promoted to associate editor at St. Martin’s/Wednesday Books.

At Chronicle Books, Lydia Ortiz has been promoted to senior designer, children’s; Beth Steiner to production director, purchasing & vendor management; and Erin Thacker to production director, creative development.

OR Books co-founder John Oakes will step down as co-publisher on May 1. He will remain on the board and continue to edit current projects.

Jacob Bronstein left Apple after almost 9 years at the company, most recently as senior marketing manager for Apple Podcasts, Apple Books, and Apple News. He is currently “consulting with a few interesting companies in podcasts, books, and marketing.”

Christopher Tolkien, 95, who posthumously published 24 of his father’s works, died on Wednesday.

Awards
Porchlight gave their Jack Covert Award for Contribution to the Business Book Industry to Mark Fortier at Fortier Public Relations, and named Don’t Be Evil: How Big Tech Betrayed Its Founding Principles—and All of Us (Currency) by Rana Foroohar their business book of the year.

Bookselling
The Barnes & Noble store in downtown Seattle‘s Pacific Place shopping center is closing on January 18, after 22 years in that location.
