Barbara Tavres and Barnes & Noble, which Tavres sued for age discrimination, have agreed on an intention to participate in private mediation through Judicial Arbitration and Mediation Services (JAMS). Together, the parties requested that the court allow them to enter mediation and asked to postpone scheduling for 90 days to continue to explore settlement. Former Holt chairman Stephen Rubin has joined Simon & Schuster as a consulting publisher, reporting to Jonathan Karp. Rubin will acquire fiction and nonfiction for all of the company’s adult publishing imprints. Karp says in the announcement, “Steve has an extraordinary eye for talent and keen judgment as a publisher on both sides of the Atlantic. Hachette Book Group and HarperCollins Also Withdraw From London Book Fair, As Paris Book Fair Is Cancelled
Hachette Book Group US has joined other large publishers in deciding not to attend this year’s London Book Fair. On Sunday the company told PL their rights team had withdrawn while other groups were “still considering,” but on Monday the company updated us: “In a spirit of caution and protecting the health of our colleagues, Hachette Book Group will not be sending any employees to the London Book Fair.” HarperCollins announced Sunday afternoon that they will not send any divisions from outside of the UK to the fair.
