David Graham has joined Quarto Group UK as ceo. He was previously managing director of Pavillion Books. Zana Hanks becomes Pavillion’s acting managing director, with Quarto selling and distributing Pavillion (via Hachette Books) starting March 29. Graham told The Bookseller, “I am very excited to be joining the Quarto Group UK at this pivotal time in the company’s development. The strength and breadth of Quarto’s illustrated publishing — in both adults and children’s — is mightily impressive. I look forward to helping Pavilion integrate into Quarto’s excellent international sales operation and leading the UK business as a whole to even greater success.”

Sharon Kunz has been promoted to publicity manager at Basic Books and Seal Press.

At Workman Publishing, Adelia Kalyvas has been promoted to director, gift and mass merchant sales; Kayla Burson to senior sales manager, online retail, catalogs & specialty wholesale; and Valerie Alfred to senior key account manager, gift sales.

At Hachette Book Group, Julie Hernandez has been promoted to executive director of wholesale sales; Danielle Cantarella to senior national account manager for Barnes & Noble; Elizabeth Venere to senior manager, account marketing; Alyson Powers to academic and account marketing manager; Katrina Kruse to senior sales representative; Ali Cutrone to executive director, online sales and GCP publisher liaison; Shiauping Shih to executive director, sales analytics; Jill Reschop-Gonzalez to director sales, information and operations; Rob Philpott to senior director of marketing, Hachette Book Group, Canada; Jennifer Gray to senior sales manager, international; and Hannah Koerner to senior subrights associate.

Carlton (Carl) Lothrop Apollonio, 91, former vice president and director of sales of the Crown Publishing Group, died January 24 at his home in Salem, Oregon. Apollonio was with Crown from the early 1970s through 1990, when he retired shortly after Crown’s acquisition by Random House.
