Marvel‘s comic books, trade collections, and graphic novels will be distributed to comics shops — known as the direct market — worldwide by Penguin Random House Publishing Services starting October 1. (They have been distributed Diamond Distribution, and Diamond will continue as a wholesaler of Marvel’s products. Hachette Book Group continues as distributor of Marvel’s graphic novels and trade collections to the book trade.) President of PRH Publisher Services Jeff Abraham says in the announcement, “Based on the foundation of our relationships with physical retailers, we’re confident in the significant growth of the comic book industry and welcome the opportunity to further collaborate with and invest PRHPS’ resources in the Direct Market.”
Leading the newly-formed Penguin Random House Direct Comic Market team is Tyne Hunter, who has been promoted to associate director, Comic Market Sales. Part of the newest Penguin Random House distribution facility in Hampstead, Maryland will be devoted to servicing comics direct market accounts.
