People, Etc.

April 16, 2021By Erin Somers

At Penguin Random House, Sashia Sadikot is promoted to director, national accounts, Target adult sales, and Jessica Ko also moves up to director, national accounts, including overseeing the Walmart adult sales team. Both report to Tom Cox.

As part of a realignment of PRH’s international sales team, which includes naming three new vice presidents, regional sales director for Asia Akiko Iwamoto and senior director, international marketing and imprint sales Tony Lutkus will leave the company later this month.

Laurel Christensen Day will take over as president of Deseret Book Co., replacing Jeff Simpson, who leaves in June to serve a three-year ecclesiastical assignment. Day has been with the company for 23 years.

Charles Gallagher, coo and cfo for Arcadia Publishing, is stepping down on June 4 to return to New York. Matthew Gildea is promoted to coo starting June 7. For the cfo position, the company has “started a search and expect to make that hire within a couple of months.”

Amanda Fatemi-Badi has been promoted to writing programs coordinator for outreach and special programs at Catapult.

Bookselling
Mrs. Dalloway’s Literary and Garden Arts in Berkeley, CA is for sale as founders and owners Marion Abbott and Ann Leyhe prepare to retire. They hope to close a deal by the fall.

Authors
The Authors Guild has made its “Model Book Contract,” last updated in March 2020, openly available for the first time. (Previously the template was limited to AG members only.) Additionally, the AG has produced a separate Literary Translation Model Contract and Commentary “to serve as a guide for US translators and literary agents,” also available for free.

Distribution
Pavilion Books Group imprint Batsford will be distributed by Quarto Publishing Group USA for wholesale and retail in the US and Canada, starting July 2021. They are currently distributed by Sterling Publishing.
