People: Pillai to Run TDA As Foy Retires

Fritz Foy has retired as president and publisher of Tom Doherty Associates, after 25 years at Macmillan in a “career path is unlike any I have ever encountered,” ceo Don Weisberg wrote.

Devi Pillai takes over as president and publisher of Tom Doherty Associates, effective immediately. Newly reporting to her are Irene Gallo, publisher, Tor.com; Linda Quinton, publisher, Forge Books; Lucille Rettino, associate publisher, director of marketing & publicity; Patrick Nielsen Hayden, editor in chief; Peter Lutjen, director, art TDA; and Molly McGhee assistant, editorial.

Maritza Lumpris will join the Hachette sales team as vp sales, international, canada and special markets, starting May 3. She was most recently as business director of Kelsen Portfolio US & Canada, a division of the Campbell Soup Company.

Rosina Shiliwala has joined Audible as vp, global social media. She was previously at Goldman Sachs.

Angela Guzman has been promoted to senior editor at Harper Christian.

Dan López has been promoted to assistant editor at Counterpoint Press.

At Coffee House Press, Carla Valadez has been promoted to managing director and Erika Stevens has been promoted to editorial director.

At Simon & Schuster Children’s, Lauren Carr and Milena Giunco have each been promoted to senior publicist.

Aemilia Phillips has been promoted to literary agent at the Stuart Krichevsky Literary Agency.

The Professional Association of Canadian Literary Agents appointed their new executive team to a two-year term: Carolyn Forde, Transatlantic Agency (President),  Carly Watters, P.S. Literary Agency (Vice President), Rachel Letofsky, CookeMcDermid Literary Management (Secretary), and Olga Filina, 5 Otter Literary (Treasurer).

The trade paperback of Gina Wilkinson’s When the Apricots Bloom will be the final Pennie’s Pick at Costco for May 2021. (Ianniciello has retired from Costco.) Wilkinson’s book was featured in our Buzz Books sampler last fall pre-publication, and was the February Target Book Club selection.
