Hachette Livre has acquired the remaining shares of genre publisher Bragelonne and Bragelonne Games, building on their minority investment from 2019. The terms of the deal were not announced. Founded in 2000, Bragelonne has a catalog of over 4,000 titles — including Andrzej Sapkowski’s Witcher books. Hachette will make Bragelonne part of their illustrated division, led by Isabelle Magna. UK Bookseller Blackwell’s Is For Sale
UK bookseller Blackwell’s is in talks with buyers, after canceling plans to transfer ownership of the 18-store chain to staff. The company has been owned by the same family since the founding of its first store in Oxford 1879. Accounting firm Begbies Traynor has been appointed to oversee the sale. Plans to hand the store over to the staff were reportedly disrupted by the pandemic. Amazon to Close India’s Westland Books
Amazon will shut down Indian publisher Westland Books, which it acquired in 2016 and made part of Amazon Publishing. They said in a statement, “After a thorough review, we have made the difficult decision to no longer operate Westland. We are working closely with the employees, authors, agents, and distribution partners on this transition and we remain committed to innovating for customers.” According to Scroll.in, Amazon has told employees that they will try to find jobs for them within the company.
