Storytel Gains 27 Percent in Q3, Above Expectations, Even As the Stock Continues to Suffer
Swedish audiobook streaming service and publisher Storytel reported preliminary results for the third quarter ended September 30, with streaming sales of SEK742 million ($70.4 million), up 27 percent from last year and just above their forecast of SEK 724-731 million. Excluding Russia, where the company ceased operations at the end of September due to the war with Ukraine, sales were SEK732 million, up 29 percent. Obituary: Peter Robinson
British-Canadian crime novelist Peter Robinson, 72, has died. Robinson’s novels include In a Dry Season (2000), Playing with Fire (2005), Strange Affair (2006), and Piece of My Heart (2007). Jared Bland, outgoing publisher at McClelland & Stewart, who published Robinson’s work for over 20 years, said: “Peter Robinson was an incredibly gifted writer and a lovely man, and we’re all deeply saddened by his loss. Peter’s novels, especially his enduring Inspector Banks series, are the kinds of books that transcend their genre—they’re crime novels, to be sure, but more than that they’re human novels, anchored by an immensely humane character. International, Estate Rights Discussed in BISG Panel
In a recent Book Industry Study Group program on rights, speakers discussed the changing landscape for translation, international, backlist rights, and more. The BISG also shared their rights tools and resources, including two papers on publishing rights and a multi-part rights education series on the BISG Youtube. BISG has also launched a four-part FAQ on rights on the Language of Rights, Acquiring Rights, Selling Rights, and Rights Best Practices, available on the BISG website.
