Baker & Taylor Publisher Services Operates for Now, While Court Docs Show Deep Financial Stress

As employees and librarians try to understand what’s going on during Baker & Taylor’s closure, which saw 523 employees laid off on Monday and 261 more due depart in the coming months, Baker & Taylor Publisher Services reports that the unit is currently excluded from the company’s “wind down,” according to a letter sent to client publishers on Tuesday. “BTPS has been handled separately,” the letter notes. “We remain fully operational, selling books and shipping orders from our warehouse.” BTPS operates from its own facility in Ohio — formerly Bookmasters — and supports more than 250 small presses. Simon Maverick Launches in the UK

Simon & Schuster has launched its audio imprint Simon Maverick in the UK, following its January 2025 US launch. The imprint is focused on self-published authors. Titles include Lauren Palphreyman’s romantasy Wolf King series, BookTok personality Jaysea Lynn’s For Whom the Belle Tolls, and I.V. Ophelia’s The Poisoner. Alice Twomey has been promoted to audio publisher, audio & Simon Maverick and the company is hiring for a commissioning editor and an assistant editor.  The imprint will be acquiring self-published UK authors across “a range of fiction genres, as well as non-fiction.” Twomey, said, “We’re really excited to be expanding this […]
