HMH Realigns Sales & Marketing Department; Heilemann and Halperin's 2012 Presidential Campaign Book to Penguin Press; and Other Announcements

Houghton Mifflin Harcourt has announced a realignment of the Trade and Reference Group’s sales & marketing division. Laurie Brown, previously SVP of Sales, has been named Senior Vice President, Sales & Marketing, reporting to Gary Gentel. SVP, Director of Marketing Bridget Marmion, who has been at HMH for eleven years, will be leaving after company.

‘s 2012 presidential campaign book will be published the following year by Penguin Press, which Crain’s reports paid about $5 million (after HarperCollins, which published Game Change earlier this year, dropped out of the bidding earlier this week.)

Former Poet Laureate Andrew Motion will write a sequel to Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island for publication in 2012.

Pearson chief executive Marjorie Scardino was paid £2.3m in 2009, a 13% from the previous year. Other company executives, including Penguin CEO John Makinson (£1.43m) and Pearson North American publishing director Will Etheridge (£1.4m), received 15% pay increases from the previous year.

Jing Bartz, director of the German Book Information Centre, Beijing, is leaving as of April 1 to pursue new challenges in the international publishing industry. Lei Ren has been named acting director. Previously he was a project manager responsible for East Asia in the International Department of the Frankfurt Book Fair.

Jessica Rothenberg has been promoted to Senior Editor at Razorbill, an imprint of Penguin Young Readers Group.

The London Book Fair’s Lifetime Achievement Award in International Publishing will be awarded to Antoine Gallimard for his “very significant contribution to international publishing.”

The Romance Writers of America
announced finalists for the RITA and Golden Heart Awards.
