Jordan Fenn has joined McClelland & Stewart as publisher of a joint Fenn/McClelland & Stewart imprint, which will focus on hockey books. The first title will be the 2011 NHL Stanley Cup Championship book scheduled for this June, with additional new titles are scheduled for this fall and next year. For the past 15 years Fenn was publisher of Fenn Publishing Company, which shut down in the wake of its parent company HB Fenn’s bankruptcy earlier this year.
Both the NYT and AP offer extensive obits on Owen Laster, who died yesterday of cancer. In a statement WME literary department head Jennifer Rudolph Walsh said: “Owen Laster was the consummate gentleman. He created a tradition of congeniality and collaboration amongst authors, agents and publishers which we still enjoy to this day. We were honored to work with him, to learn from him and to call him our friend.”
And in a lengthy comment on our story at PM yesterday, Trident Media Group Chairman Robert Gottlieb remembered his former boss and later, business partner at William Morris. He writes, in part: “He was to our industry as a literary agent as Maxwell Perkins was to the publishing industry as a publisher and editor. There are few that will every reach that apex in our industry. For me this is a deep personal loss. My rise in publishing and the
success of many in our industry owe so much to him both on a personal
and professional basis. There simply are not words to express how I feel
and what Owen Laster did for so many.”
