People, Etc.: Seaver, Schillig, Norton, Watt and More

Co-founder of Arcade Publishing Jeannette Seaver will join Skyhorse as a consulting editor to continue working on the Arcade list, which Skyhorse acquired in late 2010.

Andrews McMeel book division vp Christine Schillig will take on the role of executive editor “to fulfill her wish to  devote additional time to editing and managing her list of authors, while continuing to supervise the editorial team.”

The company is creating the new position of vp, executive producer, reporting to book division president Kirsty Melville. The new hire “will assume many of the administrative and management duties formerly held by Schillig,” lead their digital development, and work with the editorial on acquisitions and creation.

Larry Norton has followed former Borders executive Anne Kubek to INscribe, digital distribution and content conversion company, where she is general manager. Norton will lead their content & client acquisition effort. Norton was was SVP of merchandising at Borders for a brief stretch after serving as president of sales and distribution at Simon & Schuster.

In the UK, Harper UK publishing director Susan Watt is moving to Quercus, where she will lead a new imprint, Heron Books. Comprising both fiction and nonfiction, the line launches at the end of this month with Mark
Nepo’s The Book of Awakening.

At Crown, Christine Edwards has been promoted to VP, group sales director.

At Berkley, Michelle Vega has been promoted to editor.

Selina Meere has become executive director of the Workman publicity department
Courtney Greenhalgh joins the company this week as associate director of publicity (she was a publicity manager at Crown), and Jillian Ceravolo has been promoted to associate publicist.

Alloy Entertainment has hired television executive Michael Ross as their chief operating officer, overseeing business affairs across all divisions, including publishing.

DK Publishing managing director John Roberts will retire on April 15 after spending more than 10 years with the company.

The newest B&N Recommends selection is Gary D. Schmidt’s Okay For Now (HMH), which the retailer says is the first children’s novel chosen for the program.

Allan Wolfe, former East coast regional sales manager for Penguin, passed away on Saturday, April 2. Wolfe began his publishing career with New American Library in 1975.  He continued to work in sales after the company merged with Penguin Group USA in 1986.  He retired in 2004 after twenty-nine years of service.
