Wiet de Bruijn has been named as the new ceo of Holland’s general books line Veen, Bosch and Keuning Publishers, a division of NDC|VBK (which includes the imprints Ambo|Anthos, Artemis, Atlas, Business Contact, Contact, De Fontein|Tirion, Kok, Kosmos, Luitingh-Sijthoff, Mouria, Ten Have and L.J. Veen). He succeeds Bert de Groot, who retires on July 1. De Groot will continue to serve as an advisor to the NDC|VBK executive board. An independent consultant and entrepreneur, de Bruijn’s publishing experience dates from the 90s, when he was CEO of Van Dijk Educational Books.
Random House Inc. vp of digital publishing development Nina Von Moltke has announced “several structural and management changes” at Fodor’s designed to “ensure its place at the forefront of the travel marketplace into the future.” Amanda d’Acierno is being promoted to vp, publisher of Fodor’s alongside her continuing responsibilities under the same title for the Random House Audio Group and Living Language. Current publisher Tim Jarrell “is stepping down as of this week…a result of this reorganization. Von Moltke praises him as “an essential driver for many significant, positive changes at Fodor’s over the past seven years.”
Arabella Bowen is being promoted at Fodors to the new created position of executive director, editorial and content strategy. She will “oversee content creation, content partnerships, and managing editorial, and ensure a cohesive vision for Fodor’s content across all print and digital formats.” Von Moltke says they expect to add “new senior talent in the area of performance marketing and technology strategy over the coming weeks.”
Steve Kasdin is leaving Amazon, where he has worked on the Kindle team, as of Friday. He and his wife, Kate Folkers, are moving their family back to the New York area, to look for new opportunities in publishing. He can be reached at stevekasdin@gmail.com.
The “prime suspect,” who planted “crude” bombs in a Borders outside of Denver last weekend, is already in police custody on other charges, Reuters reports. The 30-year-old man was arrested last Saturday “on suspicion of drunken driving and resisting arrest.”
