People, Etc.

Kristin Ellison is joining INScribe Digital as director of business development reporting to Larry Norton. She was editorial director of WOWIO.

Nadine Vassallo has joined the Book Industry Study Group (BISG) as project coordinator, working in support of BISG’s research, event and standards development portfolios. She has worked at the Penguin Speakers Bureau, Phaidon Press, and Borders.

At Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing Company, Josh Dykstra has been promoted to inside sales representative, responsible for managing independent trade bookstore, art gallery and museum, and special market accounts.

Edmison/Harper has been appointed the North American literary scout for Editora Planeta Brasil.

Politics & Prose bookstore in Washington, DC has bought a print-on-demand machine. Its nickname is Opus. They recognize what others have reported; that what pays for the machine is offering “self-publishing services to would-be writers working on anything from a dissertation to a novel to a family history.”

Former director of publications at the Getty Trust and Museum Richard Kinney, 78, died October 21, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.

We can clarify the likely reason Tom Standage’s ebook of A HISTORY OF THE WORLD IN 6 GLASSES  did not appear on the USA Today bestseller even though it was No. 2 on the WSJ’s inaugural list following a Kindle Daily Deals promotion. USA Today senior database editor Anthony DeBarros reminds us that their list “is a ranking of titles that are selling well in a broad range of retail outlets. When a title appears on our list, that means its popularity is broad and not the result of activity at any one retailer. For now, that means that titles exclusive to one bookseller – or only selling well at one outlet — are not on our list.”

Dzanc Books now tells us that publisher and founder Steve Gillis created their rEprint line and eBook Club, and has signed the bulk of the ebook deals.
