People, Etc.

February 9, 2012By Sarah Weinman

At Dial Books for Young Readers, Kathy Dawson has been promoted to vp, editorial director.

Jennifer Gonzalez is joining the Macmillan sales department in the new position of vp, children’s sales, starting March 5 and reporting to president of sales Alison Lazarus. She has been director of sales, mass merchants at Random House, and prior to that she was director of sales, mass market and brand initiatives for Candlewick Press. She will be responsible for all children’s sales from Macmillan Children’s as well as their distributed publishers. Reporting to Gonzalez, Mark Von Bargen is being promoted to senior director, trade sales for children’s books.

Carmen Aguirre’s Something Fierce: Memoirs of a Revolutionary Daughter (Douglas & McIntyre) has won the 2012 CBC Canada Reads crown.

Four people have joined the board of the Book Industry Study Group (BISG): Mark Bide, the Executive Director of EDItEUR; Kyusik Chung, vp of business development at Goodreads; Dan Cullen, content officer at the ABA; and Sharon Lubrano, ProQuest vp and general manager, Bowker.

We misread our own deal report from 2009 in writing about Lemony Snicket‘s new series on Thursday. It was always slated to begin in 2012, and Maira Kalman illustrated his YA novel–as planned–but was never lined up for the four-book series.
