At the Penguin Press, Lindsay Whalen has been promoted to editor.
Chul R. (Charles) Kim will join the Museum of Modern Art’s department of publications as associate publisher on May 7. He was most recently director of publications and editor in chief at the Cooper-Hewitt. Prior to that he was editorial, publicity, and rights director at Welcome Rain Publishers.
Lauren Lavelle has been promoted to assistant publicity manager at Scribner.
McNally Jackson Books events coordinator Michele Filgate is leaving on May 3. She will work part-time as a bookseller at the Community Bookstore in Brooklyn, Shelf Awareness reports, and spend more time on her writing.
Random House has extended the lease on the 361,0000 square feet at 1745 Broadway it intends to keep using for five years, to 2023. (The current lease encompasses 645,000 square feet; some of the excess space has already been sublet, and the rest is being marketed to sub-tenants.)
Most of the Disney Book Group employees working in the White Plains, NY office will relocate back to the company’s Manhattan offices. The rest of Disney Publishing Worldwide is moving to Glendale, CA, PW reports, and the White Plains office will close by September 30.
BEA has made live their newest events schedule and show planning tool, which includes “quick lists” by day and drop-downs to search limited tracks such as the BEA Education program. Show director Steve Rosato writes that “all content is currently live on My BEA Show Planner, along with all of the exhibitor content. There is no separate website and search interface.” Attendees can use the tool to create and print personal agendas. The Author Stages events have yet to be announced, and the new tool tends to overwhelm searches with the large roster of author autographing sessions, but it’s a step in the right direction and BEA says more scheduling and organizational features–including a basic grid of events by day and by type–are on the way.
Nominees were announced for the 2012 Commonwealth Book Prizes, which will name winners for five regions: Africa, Asia, Canada and Europe, Caribbean, and the Pacific.
