Amber Guetebier has been promoted to editor at Red Wheel Weiser Books and Conari Press. She was formerly assistant editor.

Chad Harbach won the Book-of-the-Month Club’s First Fiction Award for The Art of Fielding; Tea Obreht won the Quality Paperback Club’s New Voices Award for her debut novel The Tiger’s Wife, and Conor Grennan received the QBPC’s nonfiction New Visions award for Little Princes: One Man’s Promise to Bring Home the Lost Children of Nepal.

Author Toni Morrison is among the 13 new recipients of the Presidential Medal of Freedom–along with former University of Tennessee women’s basketball coach Pat Summitt, whose latest memoir was just announced. (Honorees include other notables with books as part of their body of work, including Bob Dylan, Madeleine Albright, John Glenn and John Paul Stevens.)

Quiara Alegría Hudes‘ recent winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Drama Water by the Spoonful will be published by Theatre Communications Group on August 1.

Turkish publisher and human rights advocate Ragip Zarakolu has been named the 2012 recipient of the AAP’s Jeri Laber International Freedom to Publish Award. It will will be presented to his daughter and son on his behalf on May 1 at the PEN Gala at the Museum of Natural History in New York.
