Rodale has brought in their highest-level outsider since ceo Steve Murphy was dismissed in 2009 and Maria Rodale took over as chairman and ceo. Longtime Dow Jones executive Scott Schulman will join Rodale on October 28 as president, reporting to Maria Rodale. She had announced in July that the company was searching for both a president and a chief operating officer. Schulman will be responsible for developing strategy and revenue growth.
Ruth Pomerance has joined Folio Literary Management as literary and dramatic rights agent. She will build her own client list while adding to Folio’s presence in the feature film, television, theater, and gaming industries.
She was at Hyperion as a senior editor briefly, after a long career focused on developing and acquiring literary projects for film, TV, and theater, working for a number of independent producers as well as The Rockwell Group, USA Films, and the William Morris Agency.
Jeff Alexander will join The Penguin Press as a senior editor on October 29. Previously he was an editor at Vintage/Anchor.
Dan Gerstle will join Basic Books as associate editor on October 21. Previously he was assistant editor at FSG.
Kathy Daneman has joined the Portfolio, Sentinel, and Current imprints
as publicity director. She spent the past seven years at FSG, where most recently she was assistant director of publicity. She also founded FSG’s online readers. community, Book Keeping.
At Penguin Children’s, Shanta Newlin has been promoted to executive director of publicity. She will continue to oversee all publicity efforts for the division, and will also focus on communications and long-term PR strategy.
Maria Vicente has joined P.S. Literary Agency as an associate agent. She was
previously an assistant at D4EO Literary Agency.
Barbara Taylor Bradford and her husband sold their 13-room apartment at Manhattan’s River House on East 52 Street to Uma Thurman, for $10 million. Bradford told Page Six they are ready for a smaller New York apartment.
