Robyn DesHotel joins the ABA on March 2 as chief financial officer, replacing Eleanor Chang, who is retiring. DesHotel has been at PEN American Center, as director of finance and administration since 2010.
At the University of California Press, Clare Wellnitz has been promoted to director of sales & licensing, continuing to oversee rights, licensing, and contracts in addition to providing strategic oversight and direction for sales operations.
At Graywolf Press, Leslie Johnson has been promoted to managing director, while Erin Kottke adds the role of marketing director to her existing duties as publicity director.
Megan Beatie has left Goldberg McDuffie Communications, where she was vp, publicity director, after 17 years to launch her own boutique PR firm, Megan Beatie Communications. Beatie remains based in Los Angeles and will also continue to work with Goldberg McDuffie on some select projects under the GMC brand. Goldberg McDuffie ceo Lynn Goldberg said in a statement: “I’m delighted for Megan, who has what it takes to be a terrific entrepreneur. Her strategic thinking, passion, vision, and determination to embrace ‘the new’ are a boon to her clients and will serve to create the foundation of what will surely be a successful new venture.”
Publicity firm JKS Communications in Nashville announced a number of new hires, including: Journalist Angelle Barbazon as a publicist; Chelsea Apple as a publicist (she was at Hachette Book Group); and former press secretary on Capitol Hill and library executive Kendall Hinote as director of special projects.
Kathryn Stuart has joined Writers House as a subsdiary rights associate. Previously she worked in subsidiary rights at the Crown Publishing Group.
Awards
The AAP’s Professional and Scholarly Publishing division presented their annual PROSE Awards on Thursday. Their top honor went to Thomas Piketty‘s CAPITAL, published by The Belknap Press of Harvard University.
