Barnes & Noble Education (the new name for BN College) has made an unspecified investment in Flashnotes, an online marketplace that sells student-created study notes. Founded in 2010, the company had raised $11.4 million in four previous funding rounds, according to Crunchbase. (Barnes & Noble Inc. will report third quarter earnings on Tuesday morning before the market opens.)
Penguin Random House has launched an online resource to help “encourages parents to raise lifelong readers,” Brightly. It shares book recommendations from across the children’s publishing world for every age and stage, as well as reading tips and insights, special author and illustrator content, seasonal activities, and more. It’s co-founded by PRH “book lovers and moms,” Amanda Close and Christine McNamara. The site, which debuted in beta in October 2014, is under the editorial direction of Liz Kotin, formerly of DisneyBaby.com.
