As the trade gets ready for Winter Institute 11 in Denver later this month, once again we are going past the lists and previews to share significant samples of some of the spring/summer publishing season’s biggest titles and potential breakouts and new discoveries through two free ebooks. BUZZ BOOKS 2016: Spring/Summer presents readings from 40 adult books, and BUZZ BOOKS 2016: Young Adult Spring/Summer gathers excerpts from 20 forthcoming young adult titles.
Our full “trade editions” include marketing and publicity information on all of the titles, along with click-throughs to read or request full digital galleys on most of the titles. You can download a protected EPUB file of Buzz and Buzz YA directly from our site as linked, or get them through your platform of choice from NetGalley, where our samplers regularly top the most downloaded lists and drive further discovery. And they are live now on Edelweiss as well.
Or you can get the regular “consumer editions” right from your ebookstore of choice. Our master Buzz Books website has easy download links for Kindle, iBooks Store, Nook, Google Play and Kobo.
As we have proven through years of these popular promotional samplers, a good number of the titles will go on to make monthly booksellers’ and librarians’ picks of the month and critics’ best of the year list. This year’s adult debuts feature Alice Adams, Laura Barnett, Flynn Berry, Cynthia D’Aprix Sweeney, Kemper Donovan, Danny Johnson, Paul Krueger, Joe Okonkwo, Phaedra Patrick, Shawn Vestal and H.P. Wood.
Among well-known and bestselling authors, we have excerpts from Louise Erdrich, Chris Cleave, Tracy Chevalier, Joe Hill, and Emma Straub, along with titles already drawing pre-pub buzz including Lyndsay Faye’s Jane Steele, L.S. Hilton’s Maestra, and Robin Wasserman’s Girls on Fire. And our nonfiction selections include new books by Chuck Klosterman, Betsy Lerner, Nathaniel Philbrick and Rob Spillman.
The separate Young Adult edition — which often sees the most consumer downloads — packs a big punch with an excerpt from Maggie Stiefvater’s The Raven King that’s already lighting up Twitter along with new books from Richelle Mead; David Levithan and Nina LaCour; Kimberly McCreight; Alyson Noel; Matthew Quick; John Corey Whaley; and more, which will drive reader excitement as soon as the word gets out.
So start Winter Institute at home this weekend with our new Buzz Books collections. Buzz Books are one of our favorite “good for everyone” projects — from authors and publishers to booksellers, librarians and readers — and they are driven by a wide circle of cooperation, enthusiasm and partnership. It starts with the participating authors, agents and publishers; moves to our ebook distribution partners at Ingram CoreSource (who also produce the limited edition printed Buzz Books through Lightning Source that you can score at WI11 itself, and through the ABA’s White Box mailing). NetGalley helps drive thousands of downloads and hundreds of reviews through their growing community, and here at PM Robin Dellabough oversees the seamless production of this growing and complex enterprise for the mutual benefit of our participants and readers. Thanks to all, and enjoy the buzz!
