The ABA’s Winter Institute will double down on the winter part next year, moving to Minneapolis for the 12th annual gathering, convening Friday, January 27 through Monday, January 30, 2017.
The overall Costa Book of the Year award was given to The Lie Tree by Frances Hardinge, only the second children’s book to win the overall prize (Philip Pullman’s The Amber Spyglass was the first). Amulet is due to publish the US edition in May.
The Target Club Pick for February is The Autumn Balloon by Kenny Porpora (which publishes February 3).

At Hachette Book Group, Anthony Goff has been promoted to svp, content development and audio publisher. Goff will also join the executive management board, effective immediately.
In promotions at the Penguin Random House US digital product development team: Susan Livingston moves up to senior vice president, strategic business planning, U.S. Digital Product Development, Audio, and Fodor’s; Andrea Bachofen is now associate director, Publishing Development and Author Platforms; and John Clinton is promoted to senior director, digital video. Phillip Stamper-Halpin has been hired as manager, Publishing Development and Author Platforms (he was formerly managing editor for Kingston University Press in London).
And at PRH’s academic marketing team, Kaiulani Kaneta is appointed associate director, high school marketing.
At Crown, Nate Roberson has been promoted to editor, now reporting to Lindsay Sagnette.
Barbara Lewis has joined Sourcebooks as human resource manager. She was formerly director of HR and talent management at AdvantEdge Healthcare Solutions.
At Chronicle Books, Brooke Johnson has been promoted to lead designer.
International
In Germany, literary critic Felicitas von Lovenberg will take over as publisher of Piper on March 15. She was head of literature at the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung newspaper and hosted a TV show on books.
At Penguin Random House India, Sanjiv Gupta has been promoted to chief operating officer, expanding his role beyond finance, operations, IT and administration to “drive business growth and profitability.”
In scouting news, Maria Campbell Associates was appointed US literary scout for Libri Publishing Group in Hungary.
