Celebrating
Little, Brown will begin their marking of the 100th birthday of the late J.D. Salinger on January 1, 2019 with new editions of his four books in November 2018. His son Matt Salinger says in the announcement, “My father hated birthdays, holidays, and pretty much any planned or culturally mandated celebrations, and he’d certainly hate this centennial—but he loved writing and he loved his readers, and I hope his readers will be glad for an excuse to remember him in this way. I would also love for more people to read his last two books, Franny & Zooey and Raise High the Roof Beam, Carpenters and Seymour: An Introduction, for I hear his voice the clearest in these.”
Library eBooks
Long the outlier among major publishers in selling libraries unlimited access ebooks — at special, high prices — Penguin Random House announced to customers a change in terms as October 1, reported by PW. Under the new model, their library ebooks will expire after two years from the purchase date. The publisher says it has lower pricing under the new model, but they will still charge libraries “a significantly higher price” for ebooks than print versions.
Acquisitions
Ingram’s VitalSource Technologies has acquired the assets of learning and data analytics platform Acrobatiq, which they will use to expand access to personalized digital course experiences designed to improve student outcomes.
