Still Forthcoming
Publication of former CIA agent Amaryllis Fox‘s memoir LIFE UNDERCOVER “is proceeding on schedule” for next Tuesday, attorney Mark Zaid confirmed to us, despite not receiving written approval to publish from the CIA’s Publications Review Board. Knopf spokesperson Paul Bogaards underscores the house’s support as well, saying, “Our support for Fox throughout this process has been steadfast.” The author and publisher “remain aligned about the decision to move forward with publication.”
They seem to be relying — or betting — on the agency’s inaction to date as tacit approval that they don’t want to put in writing. Zaid reiterates, “At all times Ms. Fox kept the CIA’s Prepublication Review Board up-to-date of her writing.” In September, the Federal government sued Edward Snowden for violating his agreements with the CIA and NSA by failing to submit his book for review and publishing without written approval.
