Historian and author Bernard Bailyn, 97, “whose award-winning books on early American history reshaped the study of the origins of the American Revolution,” died on Friday. Best known for The Ideological Origins of the American Revolution, during his career Bailyn won two Pulitzer Prizes, a National Book Award, a Bancroft Prize, and the National Humanities Medal.
Bookselling
NYC’s Bluestockings Collective, which announced last month that it would have to relocate due to “unforeseen circumstances both pandemic-related and otherwise,” will move to 116 Suffolk Street on the Lower East Side. They launched a crowdfunding campaign with a goal of $150,000 to raise money for renovations.
Acquisitions
Once mighty Blurb was acquired earlier this month by digital printer Reischling Press, which “has produced the vast majority of Blurb’s volume for years.” RPI ceo Rick Bellamy says in the announcement, “This is a strategic acquisition for us and culminates the long-term partnership between our two companies.” Blurb ceo Rix Kramlich will be general manager of an ecommerce division at RPI.
Events
The Los Angeles Festival of Books, postponed from April, will convene as a monthlong virtual event starting October 18. As for next year’s fair, it is “scheduled to take place back on the USC campus April 17-18, though The Times will continue monitoring public health and safety protocols before that and adjust accordingly.”
