People, Etc.

January 29, 2021By Erin Somers

Mary-Kay Wilmers is stepping down as editor of the London Review of Books, but will remain involved as a consulting editor. Deputy editor Jean McNicol and senior editor Alice Spawls will succeed her as editors of the LRB. Wilmers helped found the publication in 1979, and has been sole editor since 1992. She said in the announcement, “The succession has been long in the planning and I’m very proud to be handing over the editorship to two such talented women. I’ll be continuing to do my bit as consulting editor.”

Dennis Hupp has joined Highlights as senior vice president of retail. He was most recently chief commercial officer at Slingshot Coffee Company.

Kim Dayman will join Princeton Architectural Press as marketing director on February 1. She was most recently with Harper Collins.

At Profile Books, Niamh Murray has been promoted to the new role of campaigns director. Alex Elam will join as rights director. She is currently maternity cover for the rights director at AM Heath and will transition into her new role gradually, starting February 17 one day and week and full-time as of May 4. She succeeds Penny Daniel, who moves over to become executive editor.

Forthcoming
John Grisham‘s SOOLEY will be published by Doubleday on April 27 with an announced first print of one million copies. The book will be published in trade paper by Ballantine in 2022. The novel follows a young basketball player who “gets the chance of a lifetime: a trip to the United States with his South Sudanese teammates to play in a showcase basketball tournament.”

Launching
Marta Hallett has launched G Editions, “a new independent publisher of illustrated books, principally in the areas of art and photography, with a focus on fine art and photography monographs along with author-centric titles in the gift categories.” Hallett will serve as ceo. She has had a long career in illustrated books, and founded Glitterati Incorporated in 2002. Darcy Cohan will lead marketing and publicity and Alexandra Feinman managing digital marketing and promotions. Ingram’s Two Rivers will distribute G Editions, with the first titles publishing in spring 2021.
