Former librarian Stephanie Kitchen bought Chicago bookstore City Lit from founder Teresa Kirschbraun and will reopen on June 19. The store had closed eight months ago, unable to continue following months of declining sales.
Bookbound Bookstore in Ann Arbor, MI will close some time this summer. Owners Peter and Megan Blackshear said that after nearly 8 years, “It’s time to focus on our family, friends, and all of the other things we’ve set aside.”
The union that represents employees at Powell’s Books says it has filed multiple filed multiple grievances with management for “breach of contract” and for “flagrant violations of the labor agreement currently in place.” A spokesperson for Powell’s says that the company did recently fill 41 of 46 positions with former employees who reapplied for work.
