Alena Jones has been promoted to the newly created position of director of buying and content at the Seminary Co-op Bookstores.
At Pan Macmillan, publishing director Vicki Mellor has returned from parental leave, and Gillian Green has joined the team permanently as publishing director, reporting to Pan publisher Lucy Hale. Green will build her own eclectic commercial list with an emphasis on reading group fiction, along with commissioning across historical fiction, women’s fiction, crime, thriller and saga. Alex Saunders has been promoted to commissioning editor, reporting to Wayne Brookes.

Richard Warren Baron, 98, owner and publisher of The Dial Press in the 1960s, died of natural causes on May 9 at his home in New York City. Baron published James Baldwin and Norman Mailer, and hired E.L. Doctorow as editor-in-chief.
