Storm Publishing

Quirk Books Union

As a result of the acquisition by Andrews McMeel, all union positions have been eliminated and the union dissolved as of October 1, they announced on social media.

“We’re dismayed that this has happened—we truly love the work we have done and the books we have helped create at Quirk, and the union was our effort to ensure that those books could continue being made sustainably and well,” the union stated in the announcement.

The Center for Fiction

As you may have noticed, we recently ran advertisements for the Anthropic settlement website both in Publishers Lunch and on PublishersMarketplace.com, as part of the broad paid notice campaign. While we were happy to help spread the word to potential claimants, we have no need to profit from the legal settlement, and firmly believe that as much money as possible should go to those who have suffered the gravest injury here — writers.

We are delighted to have donated our modest receipts — topped off by accrued Bookshop.org commissions and a little more money of our own — sufficient as to be able to sponsor/”adopt” one of this year’s new class of nine Susan Kamil Emerging Writer Fellows at the Center for Fiction.
