As of today, Colorado bookstore chain the Tattered Cover has opened a new location in downtown Colorado Springs, its 11th store and first outside the Denver area. The 8,000-square-foot store features “thousands of books, a full-service bar and café, and a kids area.” Elsewhere, Barnes & Noble has announced an updated store design, featuring new furniture and book rooms meant to create a “curated, cozy, and welcoming space for communities to work, read and browse.” Previous redesigns, such as their Westport, CT store last year, have boasted a “smaller footprint” and “bespoke oak shelving.”

MWA Launches Lillian Jackson Braun Award
The Mystery Writers of America announced a new award, the $2,000 Lilian Jackson Braun Award “for the best full-length, contemporary cozy mystery published by an MWA-approved publisher.” The prize is named after the author of “The Cat Who…” series, who died in 2011. The winner will be announced at the Edgar Awards banquet in New York City each spring. Bookselling: Eso Won Books To Close, Another Barnes & Noble Relocates
Black-owned LA bookstore Eso Won Books will close at the end of the year. Located in Leimert Park Village, the store was founded 33 years ago. Co-owner James Fugate said on The Tavis Smiley Podcast, “We’ve been working at it a long time and at some point, I think people reach that point where that daily grind of coming into the store, even though we’re open a small amount of time, you want to end that.” Elsewhere, Barnes & Noble will relocate its Pikesville, MD location, after 19 years.
